The new Lenovo D500 is officially the first Windows 10 tablet. It’s also the first Windows 10 tablet that looks like a laptop. It comes with a narrow 16:10 aspect ratio display. This is a subtle change from the 16:9 aspect ratio of the earlier Windows tablets that Lenovo sold. The D500 also has a very large display, which makes it more like a full-sized laptop than a tablet. This model weighs about 3 pounds and is fairly light. It will work well for people who are used to a full-sized tablet but find it a little heavy for everyday use. My review unit has a silver case that is quite attractive. The back of the case has a silver skin that has a fingerprint reader and a camera. Lenovo has an online service where you can register your fingerprint in order to use the fingerprint reader.
The D500 is both a Windows laptop and a Windows tablet. You can open it up and use it as a tablet. You can also install a keyboard and turn it into a laptop. I found that the D500 felt less heavy than the Surface Pro 4, which has a larger footprint. The keyboard is a little cramped for typing. If you do use it as a laptop, you may find that you’ll want to use the stylus. There’s no option to use the touch screen for input. The keyboard is also a little uncomfortable. You can’t adjust the angle of the keyboard. This means that it’s straight forward and when you lean on the keyboard, you can feel it under your fingers.
