Single mother waitress Halle Berry finally takes her son to the park after a series of improbably awful customers. While she is taking a horrible call from her lawyer about her ex challenging for custody, her son is kidnapped. She sees him being put into a highly distinctive-looking car and gives chase. None of the initial set-up has any relevance to what follows. My daughter and I are actually watching this as I type. We are stunned at how utterly awful it is, unbelievable from start to finish. When Berry is taking the lawyer's call in the park, she has a call - Marco! - and answerback - Polo! - system with her son, but she has her back to him! Would you simply walk away and never look at your child Especially after having spent lengthy periods dangerously turning round and looking at him in the back seat while you are drivingThankfully Ms Berry spends a lot of the film sitting alone in the car talking to herself telling us what's going on, otherwise we'd never know that she's chasing a car with her son in it (sarcasm mode: off). This film is in focus, the camera is usually steady, and the sound is well recorded. That's about it as far as good points are concerned. Ms Berry does the best she can with a script/story which is, frankly, one of the worst I have ever encountered for a film of this nature. Make no mistake, this film is very, very bad.
And so, I say my friends were kidnapped; snatched away from their homes, often under the cover of night or in rushed moves that split us apart for a lifetime. I watched Mary Martin fly as Peter Pan on TV, and it seemed my friends, too, had been lured to a Neverland.
Back in the early 1980s, Freddy Heineken, one of the richest men in the Netherlands and the head of Heineken International, was kidnapped along with his driver. Eventually, one of the largest ransoms ever was paid for his release. This film is about the kidnapping from the point of view of the crooks as well as its aftermath. This is interesting because you never see or hear anything about the police investigation--you only see the police when they are pouncing on the criminals at the end of the film. This all sounds very exciting....so why was I left so unaffected by the film It is competently made but also rather ordinary. On the positive side, the music is really, really nice. It provides a taut atmosphere and some of the action sequences were very nice. Oddly, the most exciting moment in the film occurs early in the movie--well before the actual kidnapping. In order to raise funds to pull off the kidnapping, the gang knocks over a bank--and it's exactly what I assumed the rest of the film would be like. However, sadly, after this the kidnapping seemed a bit anticlimactic and the film just seems to descend into a state of adequacy and nothing more. I think much of it is because I never felt particularly connected with the kidnappers and the tension just seemed to dissipate until the relatively exciting finale. The bottom line is that this would be a decent film to rent, but I couldn't see heading to the theaters for this one. By the way, although the film is about Dutch kidnappers, everyone in the film was British! They sounded very British and although it was filmed in the Netherlands, it seemed more like a British gang there on holiday. The same story is told, incidentally, in a Dutch language film (The Heineken Kidnapping) starring Rutger Hauer as Freddy Heineken. In this British version, the filmmakers were able to secure the talents of Anthony Hopkins to play this beer baron.
While my husband and Mr. Henley were engaged in writing plays in Bournemouth they made a number of titles, hoping to use them in the future. Dramatic composition was not what my husband preferred, but the torrent of Mr. Henley's enthusiasm swept him off his feet. However, after several plays had been finished, and his health seriously impaired by his endeavours to keep up with Mr. Henley, play writing was abandoned forever, and my husband returned to his legitimate vocation. Having added one of the titles, The Hanging Judge, to the list of projected plays, now thrown aside, and emboldened by my husband's offer to give me any help needed, I concluded to try and write it myself. As I wanted a trial scene in the Old Bailey, I chose the period of 1700 for my purpose; but being shamefully ignorant of my subject, and my husband confessing to little more knowledge than I possessed, a London bookseller was commissioned to send us everything he could procure bearing on Old Bailey trials. A great package came in response to our order, and very soon we were both absorbed, not so much in the trials as in following the brilliant career of a Mr. Garrow, who appeared as counsel in many of the cases. We sent for more books, and yet more, still intent on Mr. Garrow, whose subtle cross-examination of witnesses and masterly, if sometimes startling, methods of arriving at the truth seemed more thrilling to us than any novel.
All told, police say, more than 300 girls were abducted from their secondary school in the country's remote northeast, and 276 remain in captivity. Though details of the abductions have been public since they were carried out, the case was not widely followed until #BringBackOurGirls and other hashtags attracted a torrent of attention.
Michelle Metcalf gave up the last thing she had to lose-her secret identity. But will taking that step be enough to get revenge on the man who killed her husband and kidnapped her son Or will she have to go further Spoiler alert: she'll have to go further.
Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan faces an uncertain political future after attracting a torrent of criticism over his handling of the mass abduction of more than 200 schoolgirls by Boko Haram extremists.
Jonathan was already on the back foot even before Boko Haram kidnapped 276 girls from the remote northeastern town of Chibok in April, sparking a global social media campaign and international outrage.
It's been a month since more than 200 Nigerian girls were kidnapped from their school by the militant group Boko Haram. The world has since been watching in horror as news of the abduction has come out, first in trickles and now torrents.
The knowledge that this everyday violence is a daily threat for millions does not in any way diminish the suffering of these kidnapped Nigerian girls and their families, nor can it erode the urgency with which we fight for their return, and for their perpetrators to be brought to justice.

Son of peasants in the province of Gaza, Franisse was kidnapped by Renamo during a dawn raid. They set fire to all the houses in the small community. As the villagers fled their burning homes they were shot. Their bodies were then cut into pieces to be cooked. Franisse, the only one left alive, was forced to collect the remains of his relatives and put them in the drums the family used for storing water.
Although 12 years old he is small and fragile. With large, soft, dark eyes, he is a child who enchants at first sight. He tells me that he was kidnapped from his home with his uncles and his mother. Like so many others he was made to serve the bandit chiefs and trained to kill.
So far most of the attention has been focussed on boys. Although there must be many, little is known about the girls kidnapped by the bandits - the children of nine and ten who are raped and forced to become the 'wives' of chiefs.
In a torrent of words, he says that it was then that he gave himself up to Frelimo soldiers. 'I was not captured,' he says with pride. 'I ran away because I killed two bandits during the attack: the witchdoctor and another. The first I killed because he had been trying to choke me, the other because he was one of the bandits who had abducted me from my home in the first place.'
