A television series titled Charitraheen which was based on the novel aired on DD National, the national public broadcaster of India, in the 1982. [2] Another Bengali web-series have been made in 2018 starring Swastika Mukherjee.
The serial focuses on the adversities faced by women due to orthodox households, which led them to make certain poor decisions in life. The serial features four women, Savitri, Kiranmayi, Surbala, and Sarojini, the former two being the major characters. Savitri is a brahmin widow who gets kicked out of the house by her in-laws. Having no other choice, she works as a maidservant in a youth hostel run by a man named Satish. Savitri and Satish fall in love but do not disclose their feelings to each other owing to the social taboo surrounding the remarriage of a widowed woman. When people start suspecting that Savitri and Satish have feelings for each other, they are tagged characterless. Unable to cope with the accusations, Savitri flees to Varanasi.
A woman named Sarojini falls in love with Satish, and their love story remains to be on-again-off-again. Kiranmayi elopes with an immature orphan called Divakar. Throughout the serial, all the characters have made their fair share of mistakes. By the end of it, all of them realize their mistakes and try to redeem themselves. The story perfectly portrayed all the things that go through locked minds, from selfishness to adultery. It depicts the shattering truth of the burden posed by the norms of society.
Hi Smriti ji, I pray to god that you are the same Smriti Aravind ji who played Savitri in this DD serial. If you are, then Please Please Please connect with me or give me a social media link where I can follow you. I crazily searched the internet to find out more about you and your work but was unsuccessful. I could not find even a picture of you on the internet. I am very sad. I have become your die-hard fan. Pleaseeeee connect with me.
Hi Mohit,I am very much impressed by the character of Satish in the novel. However, I have not watched the serial yet. I am desperately looking for it. Can you help meIt feels so great to see the actual person playing the character here.
Hi Mohit,I was 15 when I had watched it on Doordarshan in 90s. I liked the serial a lot especially your character. You resembled a lot to Mr Bachchan, in movie Anand who played the role of Dr. Banerjee, especially in dhoti clad.I am watching the serial again now bein aired on DD retro at various times. Some nostalgia. The characters were effectively written by Sarat Chandra ji. I loved all his novels. The serial was brilliantly shot in the locales of Calcutta especially the hostel scenes.

Hi Mohit ji,This is smriti and when d serial was aired, i ws ten years old and I used to be so happy that the name of the character who played Savitri was Smriti:-).You, kiranmayi and upen(I donot know their real names) were fabulous in your portrayals.I must have read it n no. of times. Most of my fundas on love n marriage are greatly influenced by this novel so much so that this was the first gift I gave to my husband.Sadly, he is not very comfortable reading Hindi so now that the show is being rerun on DD Bharti, I am making him watch it and he is also loving it. a big Hi!!!!!!!!!! from my sisters. All three of us just loved your character. My mother is also a big fan and we used to debate a lot as in what kind of husband is better Satish or Upen:-) and have never settled on the answer.Let us hear what do you thinkLots of love,Smriti

I was spotted on stage (I used to act in Hindi theatre when I was studying :)) and offered the role of Satish. Many of my colleagues in the serial were professional actors from Kolkata television, stage and film circles, and a few of us were not.
hello mohit ji,i am big fan of sharatchandra ji and you as satish .i saw this serial in 1990 for the first time and after that many times on youtube. you, smriti arvind, satinath ji were simply great.its really wonderful feeling to finally see you on this platform after so many years of my search.are you still in acting fieldreally want to know lot about you.pl be safe and take carebest regards
Thank you Rajshree ji. Theatre remains close to my heart as do the arts. I believe this serial touched so many hearts because the characters are so true to life. I am so glad you have enjoyed watching it. I, in turn, wish you the best in these extraordinary times, and please stay safe. Kind regards, Mohit
But, later, I watched it again on DD and found what a class act by everyone and among them you played and threw life into the character of Satish as it is in the book of Sharat babu. Amazing!!! Your character has different shades and you did a superb act. Really great. After that you did not play any or such role If yes, I would like to know, if not, we missed a great actor like you, really. I know you are in different field, different role, but I would like you to create any such serial again with newcomers (new great actors, artists from theatre), please. of course, you should be there.
Writing about the shows we have all loved in the 80s and 90s is like walking down the memory lane and bringing all the childhood memories of TV and those characters from the serials we have bonded in our childhood.
Today, the kids would laugh at the dialogues, the costumes and the cinematography of those TV serials but much before the technology advanced from only one channel to Cable revolution and then to DTH. We all would glue to that box TV to watch the serials which still hold our memories back.

Hum Log was a 156 episode long serial dealing with the daily struggles of a family. The serial was directed by P Kumar Vasudev and written by Manohar Shyam Joshi and narrated by great Indian Actor Ashok Kumar.
Buniyaad aired in 1986 and was based on the partition of India and Pakistan. Dealing with the sensitive issue of partition on Television was a big thing to do at that time. Because the pain and loss of partition would have been very fresh at the time Buniyaad was aired. The serial became highly popular among people. 153554b96e
